Bhaktapur is placed at a distance of ten miles, which is about sixteen kilometers from the heart of the capital city of Kathmandu. Bhaktapur is one among the three cities in Nepal which is famous because of its historical significance.
Another name for Bhaktapur city is Bhadgaon. Bhaktapur is also popular as the "city of devotes". The city of Bhaktapur in Nepal is basically renowned for its elegant art, festivals that are full of color, traditional dances and life style, fantastic cultural heritage and the various manifestations of their religions and the Newar lifestyle.

Bhaktapur was at the heights of glory during the reign of the Malla empire. Among the many majestic temples placed in Bhaktapur, Nyatapola is the tallest pagoda temple in the country. This temple is the most popular pagoda temple of Nepal and it was constructed by King Bhuptendra Malla. There are many such ancient temples and monuments in Bhaktapur.

The major places of interest in Bhaktapur of Nepal are the Golden Gate, the National Art Gallery, the 55-Windowed Hall, the Shiva Mandir Kumari Chowk, the Chyassilin Mandap, the Sundari Chowk, the Krishna Temple, the Nyatapola Temple and the Dattaraya Temple.
