The blue part of the Uzbekistan Flag stands for water and the blue firmament whereas the white section signifies peace. The new moon has dual meaning, one representing Islam as a significant portion of the population of Uzbekistan are Muslim and the other signifying the new birth of the nation.
The 12 stars of the National Flag of Uzbekistan represents the twelve months of a year. The green part of the flag signifies lush green vegetation on the fertile lands. After the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991 Uzbekistan was formed and the flag was officially hoisted.
