Digital Photogrammetry is a very expensive and the only automated mapping technique, where aerial films are converted into digital image data. It is done with the help of high resolution (5-25 micro-meter). Digital Photogrammetry is very useful for the creation of 3D models like DEM etc. In short it is a very accurate and highly precise measurement tool.

Uses of Digital Photogrammetry : there are enormous fields where Digital Photogrammetry can be used, implemented and it can give outstanding results in these fields of study.

Some uses of Digital Photogrammetry are –

  • Here very high quality digital maps are produced with highly precise technology. Those maps are displayed, mapped digitally with reliable digital information for further use. Those information may include both spatial as well as attribute data.
  • Digital Photogrammetric Techniques is used in coastal management. coastal hazard management, coastal monitoring, coastal disaster management. Due to the intrusive forces like earthquakes, volcanism etc. coastal life is often changed and disturbed. Digital Photogrammetric Techniques are very useful for measuring the amount of disaster. it is very helpful to identify and monitor the amount of hazard so that necessary measures can be taken.
  • Digital Photogrammetry is also useful for for monitoring the shore line changes. This process is very slow. It causes due to the erosion along coastal region for sea waves mainly and also for other purposes. And it cannot be identified with naked eye. But to stop these disasters we should use Digital Photogrammetric Techniques .
  • In the field of Geo techniques like acquiring geometric data, such as co-ordinates, displacement or deformation, everywhere the Digital Photogrammetric techniques are used vigorously. Those collected information are further used not only in the field of geo-science but also in the field of statistics also.
  • Geo technical Engineering is another field where the use of Digital Photogrammetry has emerged its importance recently.
  • Changes of slope due to environmental as well as other factors are very slow. But Digital photogrammetry is the field where the very slow changes can be monitored. Therefor necessary measures can be taken to stop the degradation of slope.
  • It is also used for thematic mapping to produce theme based maps such as population map (both human and animal population maps), environmental maps, cadastral maps for land use, resource maps and many more. Those digital maps are further used for various purposes.
  • Digital Photogrammetric Techniques are very useful for producing digital photographic maps. Those maps are a type of thematic maps where physical features like relief, vegetation, drainage and cultural features like settlement, communication – both are shown simultaneously in one map.
  • These maps are very useful for showing a correlation between the physical and cultural aspects of a particular area of the earth surface. Statistical diagrams like pie graph, bar graph etc. can be originated from those photographic maps.
  • but one thing should be kept in mind that all the informations in those maps are not authentic always. So one should always go through the government websites or official websites of that particular area.

Digital Photogrammetry has enormous field of implementation and the scope of this field is very high in near future.
