All-Russian Research Institute for Geology and Mineral Resources of the World Ocean (VNIIOkeangeologia), Ministry of Natural Resources, Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), a part of Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), was set up in the year 1948. All-Russian Research Institute for Geology and Mineral Resources of the World Ocean (VNIIOkeangeologia), Ministry of Natural Resources, Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) has a distinct identity of being a major research institute in the field of economic minerals and geological structure of Ocean floor. All-Russian Research Institute for Geology and Mineral Resources of the World Ocean (VNIIOkeangeologia), Ministry of Natural Resources, Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) conducts its functions with the aim of implementation of national marine policy, and the federal principal program. The functions of this organization are based on the long term programs of the Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia.
