The Process of Business Mapping is very easy and simple for every business enterprise to follow.

Business Mapping Process

  • Process identification: Process identification does not only involve the separate Process es of the companies like manufacturing, sales, accounting, customer services but also includes understanding of the Process es depending on the perception of the customers. Before preparing the sequence of Business Map it is necessary to identify the purpose of Business Mapping .
  • Information Gathering: Business Mapping Process involves gathering a lot of information. There are three sources of information:
  • Information from the office: Information relating to the employees, employer and any other official information.
  • Information from outside: This includes data from outside like census data, demographic data, and other statistical data.
  • Geographic data: Geographic data includes related to the location of the company and other geographical attributes.

Records of these information are maintained in the worksheets. The two worksheets which are most important are Process Profile Work Sheet and Work Flow Surveys. The Process Profile Work Sheet consists of information about the owner of the Process , the beginning and ending of the Process , the inputs and outputs of the Process , the objectives, risks involved and other measures. The second worksheet is done by individuals who are involved in the Process .

  • Interviewing and Gathering: This is the third step involved in the Business Mapping Process . Interviewing involves personally sitting with each and every employee and then explain them about their duty in the Process . This is stored in a sticky-note way. Each responsibility is written in the sticky- note and is kept before every employee. This ensures that the map which is produced finally matches with their view of the duty. With the help of flowcharting software, the final Business Map is produced
  • Analysis: This is the only step which is done throughout the Business Mapping Process . Analyzing the maps help the employers as well as the employee to understand the entire Business Mapping Process . Understanding involves detecting unneeded approvals, review of the work done, correcting errors and taking prompt decisions.

Business Mapping Process Characteristics:

  • Data Visualization: A lot of Business data can be viewed from the Business Map s. As an example it can be said that the sales report of different places, countries, regions can be represented in a Map with the help of different colors. The viewer can understand the the information much easily and quickly. More than one data can also be represented through Business Mapping . Sales and positioning of dealers and expected sale in the coming years can be plotted on a single Map . Data of various company can be plotted together in Business Mapping which helps in comparison.

  • Spatial Process ing: Geography Information System (GIS) can be used to enhance the data which is existing and then transform it in order to extract other information required in the company. For example to understand the demographics in the base of the subscribers of a company, the subscribers are plotted on the Map and then the demographics characteristics are associated with the records. So, using of GIS helps the Business man to takeover large undertakings.

  • Spatial Queries: Queries relating to the Business Process es can be answered very easily from Business Mapping Process . A person can plan, extend, analyze his Business depending on the Business Map .

For analyzing the business Process , the reviewers needed a method and thus, Business Mapping Process shows the way.
