West Side Market – America’s Best Food Lovers’ Market.

West Side Market, Cleveland comprises an indoor as well as an outdoor market. At the outdoor market, visitors will find dozens of vendors selling fresh fruits and vegetables. The wide variety includes oranges, lemons, tomatoes, corn, peppers and many more. The market offers reasonably priced quality products and foodstuff.

The indoor market is distinguished by its typical clock tower. The 137-foot clock tower made by the architects stands as a landmark for Cleveland. Here the vendors are found selling poultry and meat. Bakery items, milk products and cheese are also available in this section of the market. Other items sold here include strudels, fresh Hungarian sausages, pork chops, fresh cut steaks and soft and hard cheese. Different varieties of fishes and seafood are available in the place adjacent to the fish market.

The interior of West Side Market is unique in itself. The inside is furnished with designed corbels with vegetable and animal portraits while the floors are made up of quarry tiles. The vaulted ceiling is 44-feet high and is built of beautiful terracotta tiles. If you feel hungry or if you love good food, you can try out the different eating zones inside the market that serve hot dogs, pierogi, hot pretzels, and many other palatable dishes.

Originally this market came into existence as an open air market in the 1840s. The land where the market stands today was donated by the resident landlords Josiah Barber and Richard Lord. The architects W. Dominick Benes and Benjamin Hubbel are accredited for the construction of this markethouse with an interior hallway.

The West Side Market conducts Wednesday morning tours for the new shoppers. You can register for a new shopper tour.
