Salvador, the capital of the Bahia state, is the largest city in the Northeast Region of Brazil. It is considered the heart of the agricultural and industrial maritime district - Reconcavo. Salvador is also a major Brazilian port known for its Old Town (World Heritage Site) and cultural landmarks. Petrolina on the northwest, Itabuna on south and Aracuja on northeast are some of the nearby cities.
By Air: The Salvador's Deputado Luis Eduardo Magalhaes International Airport, located 17 miles from the city center, receives flights to and from major Brazilian cities and international destinations: Lisbon, Miami, Frankfurt, Buenos Aires, Madrid).
By Road: Interstate buses leave from the rodoviaria (bus station) near the city center. They are quite efficient in taking you to nearby cities such as Campo Grande, Barra, and Rio Vermelho.
