Sanchos, Bangalore Restaurant Review

Sanchos

UB City changed the skyline of Bangalore few years back. It has four towers built in the center of the city and was built in partnership of UB group and Prestige group, they are visible from far off locations and have re-defined luxury. The location hosts star hotels, cafe’s, restaurants & pubs, serviced apartments, high end retail brands and commercial offices. Its also a great location to window shop and hang out before heading for a meal. That’s exactly what I did and finally decided to have my dinner at Sancho’s. This is a Mexican/ Tex-Mex place which opened very recently and is among handful of other restaurants available in the mall. I finally had a good Mexican food and a wholesome experience. Read on for the full review.

The Location

I’m sure the restaurant’s want to line up in this mall with a good foot fall and people coming out to enjoy. Sancho’s is located on the 4th floor terrace of the UB City mall right opposite to Cafe Noir.

Address: 204, UB City Mall, Vittal Mallya Road, Bangalore – 560001

The Hours

Sancho’s is open from 11:30 AM to 11:30 PM. They however mentioned that they are not taking any reservations and seating is on first come basis. Its best to register your name before you head out to the mall and they will call you once the table is ready.

The Ambiance

The UB City mall creates a great happening place with its views and a small promenade in between the restaurants, with an amphitheater and fountain on one side. The restaurant has a covered terrace seating with a few seats also available inside. The seating is very comfortable with a good choice of linen and cutlery. It also stood out to me that the linen, back wall and cutlery matched in their brownish-orange color.

The Service

As I mentioned earlier, I liked that they don’t want you to wait by the entrance for your table. You get promptly called when your table is ready, which is a great start to the service. The waiters were also well informed even though the restaurant is fairly new which shows they have made investments into training. The service was fairly prompt and the items were brought our neatly.

The Price

Sancho’s serves liquor to cater to the population in the mall, which can be varying, however it is positioned as a Mexican/ Tex-Mex place. A dinner for two without alcohol would cost about INR 1800 ($30) which is a fairly good price for the location. Kingfisher beers are priced about INR 250 ($4) for a pint.

The Food

For the starters I went with Fiesta Nacho’s which were served nicely decorated on a base of black beans and topped with tomatoes, olives, sour cream and guacamole. I loved every bite of my starter, as it had just right bit of the bean’s bed and the toppings and every thing tasted good. The nacho’s are served in two different sizes, I definitely suggest the larger one.

For the main course, I could lay my hands on a few items, starting with a vegetarian burrito. The roll had a ample filling of truly Mexican rice, beans and veggies and was served with a Mexican salad on the side. A perfect blend inside created a very nice burrito, just a delight to have.

Next I went for a Lamb Quesadilla, I found the meat was very well cooked, and neatly filled into the quesadilla. It was served with three dips – guacamole, sour cream and salsa on the side. The dish had again just the right amount of filling including the cheese and tasted delectable, very impressive!

Having had two nice dishes I was now eagerly waiting for the Chicken Enchilada, and it definitely beat my expectations. The enchiladas I’ve had in the past are way to covered in the curry which leaves little to chew. But this one had again a great curry mixture over the top, which still allowed me to easily pick and eat, very nice filling of chicken inside too. They also served it very elegantly which added to the experience.

Very nice quality of food, truly Mexican, I would wish to visit again! I recommend trying Sancho’s out whenever you in the vicinity, hang out with friends in the mall and end it with a great lunch or dinner.
