The Colorados, the Camagüey, the Jardines de la Reina and the Canarreos are the main groups engulfing the republic of Cuba, which is known as the seventh largest inland in the world.

The republic of Cuba is lying towards the southern region of Florida within United States and towards the eastern region of Yucatan Peninsula within Mexico.

Cuba is divided where entrance to this region can be made through the Hispaniola island with the help of the Windward Passage which is a major shipping route that travels from the North Atlantic Ocean to the Caribbean Sea.The Guantanamo Bay in the southeastern region within United States has its firm naval base nestled in this region.


Location of Cuba

Cuba is nestled towards the north of Caribbean merging with the waters of the Caribbean Sea, the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean. Bordered to United States and Bahamas to the eastern front, Turks, East of Mexico, Caicos Island and Haiti towards the western front, Cayman Island and Jamaica towards the southern area.

Flora and Fauna of Cuba

Cuba is surrounded by mountainous region filled with rolling topography dotted with innumerable islands that constitutes Cuba as a whole. The hilly ranges that pass through this area are the Sierra de los Iganos from the west, the Sierra de Trinidad from the central area, the Sierra Maestra in the southeastern area.

Climate of Cuba

The climatic condition of Cuba is semitropical in nature with humid weather during the summer months as affected by the northeastern trade winds. The region is occasionally hit by tropical hurricanes especially in the months of August, September, and October. The place witnesses cozy wind breeze with slight down pouring from the months of May to July. Temperature in this region never descends below a point of 27 degree Celsius but may ascend up to a maximum point of 32-degree Celsius. The excessive down pouring affects the place from the months of May to October. The pleasant time of the year is between the months of April to October, which is the best time to holiday here.


The coastal northeast hills, is popular for having species like xerophilous fauna, and batista sparrow hawks. Some of the endangered faunas are the Ivory-billet woodpecker, almique, Cuban crocodile, Conga hutia and manatee.

Tropical latifoliate heaths, xeromorph thorny rosewood and other wildflowers are the significant floras of the region.

Cuba is covered with tropical forests essentially enclosed in palm trees, while the major part of southern coastal areas are filled with mangrove marshland. Guantánamo Bay is the only sole region where desert plants survive.

The National flower of Cuba is mariposa popularly known as butterfly jasmine, which is a tiny little white petal orchid.

The National Bird of Cuba is Tocororo that has a mixture of white, blue and red feathers that constitute the Cuban flag.

Son, rumba, cha cha, bebop jazz, charangas are other form of music widely popular in this region. Afro Cuban spiritual music paved way for preserving their religion, which was a blend of Yoruban mysticism with Catholicism.

The Salsa dance popularly known casino originated here in Cuba. The blend of salsa with jazz brought about a famous dance form in Cuba known as timba-jazz.

Flag of Cuba

The flag of Cuba was officially accepted during the month of May 20, 1902. The Cuba flag is designed with three solid colors horizontal stripes in blue color, which denotes the sea engulfing the island of Cuba. The two white horizontal stripes represent the meaning of purity. Nestled on these stripes is a red triangle that stands for every drop of blood shed by martyr for the sake of the nation. A white star within this red triangle basically signifies the country’s independence.

Economy of Cuba

The economic growth of Cuba mainly depends on Tourism, Agriculture, biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry, foreign investment and International Trade. Sugar has its major contribution to the economy’s developement with major share with the land, labour, and other relative factors affecting the industry.
