Travel to the most developed commercial sector, which is densely populated and equivalently attractive, known as El Salvador. Reputed as the surfers paradise where one can choose to surf all day long at San Salvador, El Sunzal, El Zonte and the El Este. The place derived its present name from the Spanish word -The Saviour. It was meant to honor the territories of Jesus Christ, which were known as Cuscatlán. El Salvador is packed with isolated beaches, molten volcanoes, charming colonial towns, beautiful coconut islands and many others.

As El Salvador is known for its tiny size and is even referred to as the Tom Thumb of the Americas. The place is bordered with rivers that descend to the Pacific Ocean. Among these names can be mentioned about the meandering rivers that passes through this region which are mainly Goascorán, Jiboa, Torola, Paz and the Río Grande de San Miguel. Several volcanic craters can be sighted adjacent to the important lakes like Lake Ilopango and Lake Coatepeque. Cerro El Pital is known for being placed at the highest point within the country

Location Of El Salvador

El Salvador is quietly nestled within the Central America while being a part of the North American continent. The place is engulfed from the southwestern region by the Pacific Ocean, and is placed well in the midst of Guatemala and Honduras.

Climate Of El Salvador

The climatic condition of El Salvador is tropical in nature manifested with wet and dry seasons that vary in accordance with the seasonal change. The low-lying Pacific areas are affected with the humid weather conditions whereas the central plateau region or mountainous areas are moderate and cooler in nature respectively.


Invierno the natively word for rainy or winter season affects the areas from the month of May to October. The southern mountainous slopes are prone to heavy down pouring accompanied with thunderstorms, which is influenced by low pressure caused at the Pacific.

It is during the month of November to April, El Salvador witnesses dry and sultry weather condition, as the northeast trade winds ascending from the Caribbean, affects the air that carry precipitation and dries out by the time it reaches the Honduras mountains. The local people know this season as Verano.

Flag Of El Salvador

The Flag of El Salvador was officially accepted during the month of May 17, 1912. The flag is designed with three horizontal bands lying one topping the other. The blue band is placed in the topmost and the bottommost area while the white color band intersect them from the middle. The coat of arms that is placed in the middle of the flag is inscribed with words that spell “Republica De El Salvador En La America Central”. The color blue and white was initially used by the United Provinces of Central America right after the country’s independence and is encircled with five flags representing the United Provinces.


Flora And Fauna Of El Salvador

The native trees of this region that grows along the northern mountainous region are mangrove, rubber, dogwood, mahogany, cedar, walnut, pine and oak.

Balsam is the medicinal gum plant along with orchid trees that is grown within the country in abundance.

The native fauna of this region are monkey, jaguar, coyote, tapir, parrots and armadillo.

Different species of hummingbirds can be sighted at the Cerro Verde National Park.

Visit the Parque Nacional Montecristo, popularly known as the cloud forest reserve that is filled with innumerable species of animals and plants.

People Of El Salvador

The major ethnic group residing in El Salvador was Pipils, Lenca, Pok’omame and Chorti.

The population is constituted with mainly Mestizo population those generating from the Spanish and Indian regions while a small portion deriving from the European region.

Christianity is the popular religion prevailing here with majority being the Roman Catholics and the rest with the converted Protestants.

Spanish is widely spoken in this region while Nahua is also accepted here.

Arts, Culture And Music Of El Salvador

Art: The native handicrafts are popular in this region, which is best to bet on. Wicker furniture and weavings are some of the unique crafts that one can purchase. The region of Ilobasco is known for its clay handicrafts whereas bedspreads and carpets can be seen at San Sebastian. Visit the art center of Centro de Arte y Cultura Tonatiuh nestled in Panchimalco, which exhibits works on paintings and ceramics.

Culture: The place is known to have a rich culture influenced from the Mayan, Pipil, Aztec, Spanish and West African regions. Poetry is retained in this region with the sample works of Manlio Argueta and Francisco Rodriguez.

Music: The native music of El Salvador communicates the tunes of marimba , violins, mariachi bands, salsa, Cumbia or Merengue. Religious songs are quite popular in this region, which are Roman Catholic in nature that can be heard during the celebrations of Christmas holidays and other festivals. Satirical and rural lyrics are also popular in this place along with the tunes of Pipil and Maya music, which is escorted with flutes, drums, scrapers, gourds and many other instruments.

Economy Of El Salvador

The economy of El Salvador is seeking towards its growth by indulging in export market, by making foreign investment, revising the health care system along with the taxation policy just to enliven the slow moving economy.

Presently government has made several initiatives like making the banking system, telecommunication industry, electrical supplies and public pension private in nature.

Indigo and Coffee were some of the main source of income from which the country once earned its revenue which has diminished in due course of time.

The goods that are exported from this region are coffee, sugar, shrimp, textiles, chemicals and electricity.

The commodities that are imported include raw materials, consumer goods, capital goods, fuels, foodstuffs and petroleum.
