Somalia culture is a part of Islamic culture. As the Muslims ruled Somalia for a good long period, the culture of Somalia has a strong influence of that of the Muslims. In fact Somalia Religion is also Muslim.

As the Islamic religion prohibited in take of pork and alcohol, so these two things were not included in the Somalia food. As far as the dress of Somalian was concerned, the women were all covered except their hands and face. The dress of the women is known as Hijab. According to the culture in Somalia men wore dress, which covered their body from the waist to the knee. This pattern of dressing is followed since the children reach the age of seven to nine.




To know Somalia culture well, it is necessary to understand the culture of the Muslims. Somalians follow an egalitarian political culture. The education of the Somalia children begin with reading the Quran. There are several different clans among the Somalians and marriages between people from different clans is quite common.


Somalia Culture practices the rules and regulations set by the Quran. However there is a slight touch of the Americans as well. The political view is quite American. In Somalia the average children count per family is about seven to eight. Great respect is given to a woman by different kinds of celebrations, when she is pregnant. The culture of living in extended families is quite common in Somalia.
