Qatar was ruled by the Persians for many years. Ottoman Turks and the British also spent year ruling Qatar, until Qatar regained its independence on September 3, 1871.


Location of Qatar :

The State of Qatar is an Arab nation, located in the Middle East in western Asia. The Qatar Peninsula is situated on the northeastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula. Qatar shares its borders with Saudi Arabia to the south, and as a peninsula, Qatar is surrounded on its three other sides by the Persian Gulf.

Physical Features of Qatar :

The surface of the State of Qatar is covered with flat plains, deserts, uplands, lowlands, and plateaus. Deserts cover a considerable portion of Qatar’s land, and feature sand dunes and rocky terrain. The Qurayn Abu al Bawl rises 103 meters above sea level, claiming the highest point in the country, while the low point is the Persian Gulf.

Flag of Qatar :

The flag of Qatar is white and maroon, divided vertically with a jagged line of nine teeth. The white makes up the majority of the flag along the hoist side, while the maroon, popularly known as Qatar Maroon makes up the outer third on the fly side. The flag was adopted in 1949, and closely resembles the flag of nearby Bahrain.


Climate of Qatar :

The climate of Qatar is generally arid year-round. Summer lasts from May through September, and is warm and wet. Average temperatures during summer range around 35°C and go all the way up to 50°C. Winter lasts from December to February and is the most pleasant time of year in Qatar, sometimes receiving rainfall.

Flora and Fauna of Qatar:

Flora: Because Gulf deserts cover much of Qatar, the vegetation of the country is sparse, howerver desert plants like succulents and cactus can be found.

Fauna: The animal kingdom is also sparse in Qatar, though Jerobas, or wild rats, and various species of lizards and venomous snakes can be found. A variety of birds inhabit Qatar, including unique species like osprey, flamingo, kestrel, cormorant, plover, and lark. Sea creatures in the region include king mackerel, sharks, prawns, grouper, and swordfish.


People of Qatar:

The total population of the State of Qatar is about 1.8 million as of the 2010 census. The major ethnic groups in Qatar include Arab, Indian, Filipino, Nepali, Pakistani, and Sri Lankan. Arabic is the official language of Qatar, but English, Malayalam, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Tagalog, Urdu, and Punjabi are also widely spoken.

Art, Culture, and Music of Qatar:

Bedouin poetry is an important part of culture in Qatar. Qatar is an Arabic country, and as such, is an Islamic nation. The Islamic tradition involves dance and music. Dances are performed for ceremonies such as weddings. Music is also very important in Qatar, partcularly Khaliji music. Some of the instruments include tambourine, cymbals, small drums, the Arabian flue, and string instruments like oud and rebab.

Economy of Qatar:

The economy of Qatar is fairly dependent on its oil and gas industry, which have made it one of the highest income countries per capita and one of the richest. Qatar’s economy continues to grow rapidly with the world’s dependence on oil.
