Central Hungary



Central Hungary is one of the most remarkable statistical units of Hungary and mainly covers the Hungarian capital city Budapest and Pest, the county encircling it. The approximate area of this region is 6919, whereas, population is 2,825,000.

Central Hungary (specially Budapest) is the major business hub of the country. Around 42% of the national GDP is being produced here, whereas 2/3 of the foreign capital and 40% of the good enterprises can be seen here. Budapest also contributes a lot in the overall growth of the country including finance, logistics, tourism and information technologies. In 2005, over 70% of the local workforce was engaged in the services sector, while only a quarter of the workforce was working in the industry.

It is assumed that the industrial output of this central Hungarian region is more than the national average, offering around 31.6 % (1999) of the entire industrial output. The key industries in this area are as follows:

This is not all Central Hungary has also a series of colleges and universities. It is said that the chief partners of this region in the innovation field are Regione Umbria (Italy) and Brandenburg (Germany).
