Litomysl

Litomysl is reputed for its elemental beauty as one of the most attractive towns of the Pardubice Region in Czech Republic. The town is resplendent in the old buildings and structures built in the baroque style of architecture.

The town of Litomysl has an elongated square that is one of the largest squares in the country. Decorated on all sides with the monumental house and buildings, the square is one of the chief attractions of the region of Litomysl.

The history of the town begins with the development of a settlement under the walls of the monastery found en route Bohemia and Moravia. The settlement grew into a town in the 13th century and was under siege of the Hussite army in the 15th century. The palace of the Bishop was set on fire and the bishopric was destroyed. In the second half of the 16th century, the magnificent chateau was built in the place where earlier stood the Bishop’s Palace. One of the most attractive chateaus of the country, the chateau in Litomysl is elaborated with the graffiti designs.

Other than the square and the chateau, the tourists may visit the Church of the Discovery of the Holy Cross and the Knights Hall which are marvels of the region of Litomysl.
