Hot water can be so heavenly, especially in winters. It can take all your stress away. On a cold winter morning, we look forward to jump into a hot tub. Then, who wouldn’t want to visit some of the remarkable hot springs in the winters? The Jacuzzi-type natural pools are wonderful gifts from Mother Nature. The natural bubbles emerging from the earth’s crust, are perfect for relaxation – unless they are not too hot.
A spring is produced by geothermally heated groundwater, rising from the crust of the Earth. There is no universally accepted definition though. The heat is created by decay of naturally radioactive elements. While most hot springs are a result of volcanic activity, some are hot because the water percolates into the crust deep enough, and come in contact with the hot rocks in the mantle. The flow rate in hot springs varies, and not all are of suitable temperatures to take a bath. But, here we bring you the names of some of the most remarkable hot springs which are travel attractions:
The world’s largest hot pool is the Frying Pan lake, located in New Zealand. It is an Echo Crater of the Waimangu Volcanic Rift Valley. The temperatures range from 50 to 60 degrees Celsius (122–140 °F). It was result of 1886 Mount Tarawera eruption. It covers 9 acres of area and has a maximum depth of 66 ft. It is one of the major attractions in the beautiful country.
Also known as “Yangpachen hot springs”, they are famous for being located at such a high altitude, that is, from 14,070 to 14,760 ft above sea level. Located in Tibet, this hot spring has an amazing view of snow-capped mountains. For an adventurer, it will be one of the gorgeous places to visit during winter season. The steam here helps in producing electricity for the capital Lhasa.
Located far away in the frozen Arctic, Troll and Jotun is the world’s most northerly natural springs, at a latitude of 80°. It is situated in Nordvest-Spitsbergen National Park, Svalbard, in Norway. The pool is comfortable for a swim, with temperatures ranging from 24 to 28 degrees Celsius.
The beauty of the Grand Prismatic is most clickable. It is USA’s biggest hot water spring and is located in Wyoming in the Yellowstone National Park. It is at an elevation of 7,270 ft and has its colors matching to the rainbow dispersion, that is, red, orange, yellow, green and blue. It is however caused by pigmented bacteria that forms around the edges of mineral-rich water.
The city of Japan, Beppu is blessed with 2,909 springs. Aside from conventional hot water baths, Beppu offers sand baths, steam baths and mud baths, which is why people love coming to the resort. More than 180,000 people visit Hamawaki Onsen every year.
