Balan



Balan is a beautiful town located in the county of Harghita in Romania. The town of Balan is very famous for copper mining. This town of Balan consists of an ethnically mixed population of 9390.

Out of this total population, 64.8% were of Romanian ethnicity and 34.5% were Szekely Hungarians.

Presently the city of Balan is working for promoting ecotourism and small-scale business as the key economic activities. By the year 2006, the government of Romania had stopped all the mining activities in this place. During the 17th century, this town was the main center of mining. Balan got its town status in the year 1968.
