Alabama Known For

Alabama, in the southeastern US, became the 22nd state to join the Union on December 14th, 1819. We aren’t sure if the state is better known, or the song ‘Sweet Home Alabama,’ is better known, but despite the song’s fame, it isn’t the state song. The state’s musical heritage is well-known. The documentary ‘Muscle Shoals,’ showcased the incredible musical talent that the state has produced, earning Alabama the recognition it richly deserves.

Alabama also gained a great deal of fame when renowned authoress Harper Lee published her epic novel ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ in 1961. Lee based the tale of racial inequality in this southern state based on her observations and experiences from her childhood in Monroeville, Alabama.

Apart from its famous Southern hospitality and friendliness, Alabama is known as one of the highest peanut-producing states in the country. The Nation’s Largest Peanut Festival is held in Dothan each year. Alabama is also called the Cotton State due to the cotton produced here.

The state is now very well known for its lush golf courses, sandy beaches, college football, and barbecue culture.
