Sri Lanka Education

by Vishal Kumar

Sri Lanka always valued the importance of learning. As a consequence Sri Lanka was a home to great learning centers.

However due to foreign influence the former Sri Lanka education system deteriorated and the contemporary system of education emerged.
Sri Lanka is also making significant developments in the world of Information Communication Technology. Even the remote villages in Sri Lanka have cyber cafes. The contemporary Sri Lanka education system owes its origin to the British colonists. The education is imparted through Sri Lanka colleges. The mode of education in Sri Lanka schools is imparted through the primary, lower and high secondary schools. The language followed is either Tamil or Sinhala. After completing six years in the primary school the students sit for a scholarship to pursue junior secondary education. After completing this the students sit for G.C.E. Those qualifying the government conducted examination, pursue Senior Secondary Education for two years . At the commencement of two years they give the G.C.E. Advanced level examination. The qualifying students go to universities for further studies. Those failed to qualify the university entrance test either go for vocational training or seek admission under open university. The government of Sri Lanka provides books and uniforms to the students without any charge.
