People, Culture, Festivals occupy an important position in Peru.

Most of the People of Peru are mestizo. Mestizo is an admixture of Amerindians and Peruvians of European ancestry.




The rate of the Peruvians of European ancestry is 15 %. A small number of African, Japanese, and Chinese ancestries are also found in Peru. Spanish and Quechua are the two official languages of Peru.


Christmas, Corpus Christi or Holy Week, etc. are the festivals of Peru.

Harps, lutes, guitars, bandurrias, vihuelas, etc. are the instruments which are used in the music of Peru.

Ingredients like maize, potatoes, tomato, etc. are used in the Cuisine of Peru. Ceviche, lomo saltado, etc. are some of the distinctive dishes of Peru.


Peru Religion is a heritage of the Spanish Conquest and for this reason more than 75 % of the Peru people are Catholic. Many Protestant churches are found in Peru. The other religions found in Peru are Adventists, Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus, etc.

Anticuchos, tamales, Ceviche, Chambar, Pez Guitarra, Cuy chactado, Rocto relleno, Tacacho, Juane, Yuca chupe, etc. are some of the delectable dishes of Peru.

The literature of Peru is one of the important Peru cultures which include written literature along with the literature which was created during the colonial period.

The music of Peru is a merger of sound and style. The instruments used in the music of Peru are harps, lutes, guitars, bandurrias, vihuelas, etc.

The dances of Peru have an association with agricultural work, hunting and war apart from dances of native descent.

Peru Festivals

Peru festivals are numerous in number and are very colorful. There are a number of religious festivals in Peru that are celebrated in different times throughout the year. Apart from the religious festivals, Peru has a number of other cultural festivals and celebrations. All these have made the life of the people in Peru very much enjoyable and colorful.

In Peru there are a number of religious festivals. Cristian religious festivals, mingled with the native religious fest, have given rise to some unique cultural and religious celebrations in this South American country. Such a festival is the celebration of Corpus Cristi in Cuzco which is one of the major cities in Peru. Other colorful and interesting religious Peru festivals are, Inti Raymi, Fiesta de la Virgen del Carmen, Dia de Todos Santos and many more. There are many other Carnivals that are held in Peru and are part of Peru festivals. All these festivals have their distinct nature and joyous environment.
