Belize Education refers to the educational system of the country. As Belize was once a colony of the Englishmen, the country follows the English system of education. Under this system, there are three levels like primary, secondary and tertiary.

The primary education of every Belizean child continues for 8 years that includes two years of infant classes and another six standards. Primary education in Belize is mandatory and free. The secondary education of Belize continues for four years. Many schools in Belize are affiliated by church but the government also supports these schools.




University College of Belize was the first University of Belize formed in 1986. Besides, throughout the country there are many colleges like Belize Teachers’ College, Belize Technical College and College of Agriculture.

The spread of Belizean education is one of the principle strategies of the Belizean government.
