The evening when the world will yet again wait for the mystical sight of the moon is not far. Photographers, eclipse watchers, young and old people, will look forward to the rare sight of a total lunar eclipse. The total lunar eclipse on July 27, 2018, is the most-awaited eclipse of the century. It is the longest eclipse, which the experts say will last for nearly 4 hours. Prior to this, the records say that the longest lunar eclipse happened on July 16, 2000.

Total lunar eclipse is informally known as the blood moon, owing to the red color of the moon. The refraction of light in Earth’s atmosphere results in the red color of the moon during the eclipse. The sunset and sunrise time gives reddish color because of the same reason.

Total lunar eclipses are rare because the moon is usually below or above the plane of Earth’s orbit. When the Earth, sun, and moon are aligned in a single line, an eclipse is witnessed and this phenomenon is known as ‘Syzygy’. An interesting fact about the lunar eclipse is that it happens only on a full moon night.

The easiest sky-watching event, a lunar eclipse can be witnessed with the naked eye and viewers do not need any special equipment like binoculars or telescope. On the contrary, solar eclipse should be seen with eye protecting glasses because the sun emits light that is harmful to the human eye.

During the ancient times, seeing the moon during the eclipse was considered bad omen and was considered a sign of God’s wrath and the end of the world. However, with the technological advancements, the myths around eclipses have dissolved and people have started understanding it as a celestial phenomenon.
Since the angle and the distance varies between countries and the celestial bodies, the visibility of the eclipse varies with regions. The Enthusiasts might want to capture delightful images and here are the details mentioning the cities and the time when it will be visible.
