Project San Francisco

San Francisco is a special city for us. This city is an entry point for Mapsofworld.com. Actually, it was from this city that the journey and expansion of Mapsofworld in the US started in 2007. We went ahead and made neighboring San Jose our home and it kept on getting better and better from there.

San Francisco wasn’t and isn’t the typical America, which is talked about all over the world. Many insist it is not America at all or there is nothing American about it. As we kept going, we kept discovering this city more and more. In 2010, we started our research to zero down on one city, which would be our first city-specific section for the US and also explored the possibility of doing Los Angeles, New York, Las Vegas and San Francisco.

We sent a a team and  got LA covered as a photo shoot but we didn’t get motivated enough to start. The shoots of New York and Las Vegas followed. Few other halfway attempts were also made but nothing could win our hearts. Finally, it was San Francisco’s turn and the city was bang on. We loved what we saw and were motivated enough to go ahead and commit ourselves to a project, which would cost over $2 Million before it starts giving back anything.

The project has been evolving and shaping up well. We decided to buy, a not-so-short, not-so-long, part vanity, part purpose domain name for it – SanFrancisco.in. We love typing that in and accessing the project within Mapsofworld.com. It gives us a satisfaction of working on something closer to our dream. It does help us retain our focus and every time we upload an article, we tell ourselves “San Francisco is in.”

Project San Francisco has got a decent start in terms of content – we have videos, photographs, infographics, textual content, and, of course, maps. Yes, it is maps that is pushing us most. We are committed to developing maps specific to each place we cover. We are committed to making maps so attractive that people love sharing them as they share photographs of places they have visited. And, it is working out, so far so good – no complaints.

Do visit SanFrancisco.in and drop us your suggestions.
