About Arlington

Arlington is located in the Tarrant County in Texas. The city covers an area of 99.7 square miles. With a population of 379,577 at the end of 2013, as per the US Census Bureau, Arlington is the seventh most populous city in Texas. Arlington shares its borders with Kennedale, Grand Prairie, Mansfield and Fort Worth.

History

Arlington was founded in 1876 and was incorporated in the year 1884. The city witnessed massive growth over the years and by 1910 had access to water, electricity and telephone services. In 1954, General Motors set up their assembly plant in the city leading to large-sale industrialization. Today it is home to prominent educational institutes and companies

Places of attraction

Arlington is home to many prominent places of attraction. Some of these are a theme park Six Flags Over Texas, River Legacy Park, Arlington Museum of Art, Globe Life Park, International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame, Top O’Hill Terrace, and Tierra Verde Golf Club to name a few.

Education

Arlington is home to many prominent schools and colleges. Situated here is the University of Texas at Arlington, which is the largest university in the northern part of the state. Some private institutions are the Arlington Baptist College and Kaplan College.

Transport

Arlington is well-connected by air. The two airports located near the city are the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport and Dallas Love Field. Train service is provided by two Amtrak routes that serve Dallas/Fort Worth. These are Texas Eagle and Heartland Flyer.
