Located in the Mekong Delta, Ben Tre in Vietnam is politically and economically significant as coconut oil produced in the province was used as a substitute for kerosene during the Vietnam War. It still retains its significance as a major producer of coconut oil and rice in Vietnam. Ben Tre is drained by a network of criss-crossing streams and canals which form a source of irrigation for the cultivation of rice and the basis of water transportation in the province.
The population of Ben Tre comprises various ethnic groups the chief of which is Viet. Others include Hoa, Khmer etc. The people are warm and friendly, and extremely hospitable. The culture of Ben Tre is traditional and consists of native customs.
With colorful markets and picturesque countrysides, Ben Tre is one of the most beautiful provinces in Vietnam. Though Ben Tre abounds in natural beauty and tourist sites, it remains untouched till today.
