Born in the\u00a0New York City, Schuyler Colfax<\/b>\u00a0was a Vise President of the United States of America. At a very young age\u00a0Schuyler Colfax<\/b>\u00a0moved to\u00a0New Carlisle<\/b>\u00a0with his parents.<\/p>\n
From the early years of his life\u00a0Schuyler Colfax<\/b>\u00a0began to write articles in papers and journals like the\u00a0New York Tribune<\/b>. Writing on topics like Indiana politics fetched\u00a0Schuyler Colfax<\/b>\u00a0the reputation of an young rising\u00a0Whig<\/b>\u00a0in the\u00a0Indiana Politics<\/b>\u00a0and soon became an editor of a Pro- whig News Paper which he later purchased.<\/p>\n
A delegate of the\u00a0Whig Party Convention<\/b>\u00a0of 1848,\u00a0Schuyler Colfax<\/b>\u00a0was also a member of the\u00a0Indiana Constitutional Convention<\/b>\u00a0of 1949 and later in 1950 he became a member of the state constitutional convention.\u00a0Schuyler Colfax<\/b>\u00a0lost the fight for Congress to his Democratic opponent in the year 1950. With the collapse of the Whig Party, Schuyler Colfax contended again and this time he emerged victorious. After a short period of time\u00a0Schuyler Colfax<\/b>\u00a0became a member of the\u00a0Republican Party<\/b>\u00a0that was now being formed by the coalition of Northern Whigs, Anti-Nebraska\u00a0Democrats<\/b>\u00a0and free soldiers. In the year 1862 the defeat of the\u00a0House Speaker<\/b>\u00a0Galusha Grow paved the way for\u00a0Schuyler Colfax<\/b>\u00a0to be elected as a Speaker of the House.<\/p>\n
Schuyler Colfax<\/b>\u00a0was elected as the Vice President in the year 1868 as a Republican candidate. Political rumors and suspicion hindered the re-election of\u00a0Schuyler Colfax<\/b>\u00a0to Presidency in the year 1872.
