They blended after centuries of Portuguese, Dutch, Peranakan Chinese, and the British rule. Founded in the 15th century by a Sumatran king Parameswara, the city gets its name from the Melaka tree under which he used to rest after his daily chores. After the city center was designated as UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2008, the influx of tourists saw a phenomenal rise. They come here to get a whiff of its multicultural heritage.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_15237\" style=\"width: 810px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mapsofworld.com\/travel\/blog\/a-weekend-in-malacca-a-quaint-city-in-malaysia\/attachment\/driftwood-house\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-15237\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-15237\" class=\"size-full wp-image-15237\" src=\"https:\/\/images.mapsofworld.com\/travel-blog\/Driftwood-House.jpg\" alt=\"Driftwood House\" width=\"800\" height=\"532\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-15237\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Driftwood House<\/p><\/div>\n<p>This colonial town and its carefree life would not let you go until you have blissful memories to carry home. I checked-in at a homestay called \u201cDriftwood\u201d to live as the locals do. While traveling, I always prefer homestays over hotels as they are a home away from home. May &amp; Sylvester are amazing British and Malaysian-Chinese couple who ensured that I did not miss anything interesting in Melaka town. I was definitely struggling to keep my eyes open to red-painted Dutch Square and Stadthuys on a bright and sunny day.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_15239\" style=\"width: 810px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mapsofworld.com\/travel\/blog\/a-weekend-in-malacca-a-quaint-city-in-malaysia\/attachment\/melaka-tourist-office\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-15239\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-15239\" class=\"size-full wp-image-15239\" src=\"https:\/\/images.mapsofworld.com\/travel-blog\/Melaka-Tourist-office.jpg\" alt=\"Melaka Tourism office\" width=\"800\" height=\"532\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-15239\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Melaka Tourism office<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Visting Replica of Melaka Sultanate Palace, St.Paul&#8217;s Hill, Baba Nyonya Heritage Museum, etc, were always on my mind. I made my way to Malaysia tourism office to get updated on days and timings when tourists are offered a free guided tour to all these heritage places. These graffiti make the facades look splendid.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_15243\" style=\"width: 810px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mapsofworld.com\/travel\/blog\/a-weekend-in-malacca-a-quaint-city-in-malaysia\/attachment\/food-graffiti\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-15243\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-15243\" class=\"size-full wp-image-15243\" src=\"https:\/\/images.mapsofworld.com\/travel-blog\/Food-Graffiti.jpg\" alt=\"Food Graffiti\" width=\"800\" height=\"532\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-15243\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Food Graffiti<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Interestingly, some of the graffiti show Malaysians&#8217; love for food.<\/p>\n<p>I thought the best way to see the historic center of the town is in \u201cTrishaw\u201d, where I would pass the salmon-pink building in this psychedelic three-wheeler.<br \/>\nI found the best time to experience it is in night, when most of them (around 50) line up around the Jonker Street and do a short 15-minute round with music, which might even suit your personality.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_15250\" style=\"width: 613px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mapsofworld.com\/travel\/blog\/a-weekend-in-malacca-a-quaint-city-in-malaysia\/attachment\/trishaw\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-15250\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-15250\" class=\"wp-image-15250 size-my-custom-thumb\" src=\"https:\/\/images.mapsofworld.com\/travel-blog\/Trishaw-603x904.jpg\" alt=\"Trishaw\" width=\"603\" height=\"904\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-15250\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Trishaw looks psychedelic at night.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The food in Malacca will leave you spellbound.
