Mount Taranaki at Egmont National Park<\/p><\/div>\n

The area was brought under the control of the Department of Conservation and a National Park was established in 1900. Mt. Taranaki, which dominates the region, is approximately 120,000 years old. It is the most perfectly formed volcano in New Zealand that had last erupted in 1775.<\/p>\n
