(Dr. Meenakshi Ahuja has written 26 articles for us)
Born and brought up in a melting pot of a city, Delhi, I am a true delhiite, a 'dilli'phile, if you please. I'm a people's person traveling to new places all over the world (my hippie soul) and of course, trying out new cuisines (my foodie alter ego). I traverse the length and breadth of the city hunting for interesting places to eat, be it an exotic menu or an old comfort food, a roadside shack or a fancy almost-hatted restaurant. I strive to give an 'ordinary-mortal-with-a-fondness-for-food' take on 'delhi'ghtful places to eat and I hope you enjoy this food journey as much as I do.

Peninsular Kitchen – Restaurant Review

Peninsular Kitchen – Restaurant Review

The Peninsular Kitchen is a coastal cuisine restaurant in Vasant Kunj. Relatively new and untried, it looked tempting enough to experiment on a weekend. Now that Zambar has closed, it seems to have an edge by virtue of being the only place offering South Indian non-veg cuisine in the trio of malls in Vasant Kunj.(…)

Rose Cafe – Restaurant Review

Roses are red, Violets are blue; Romance is in the air and it’s time for Rose Cafe review. A cafe by this name warranted a visit, especially when it’s a Valentine month. The Location This place is virtually in hiding, hence, relatively unknown. The restaurant is nestled between little kathi shops and grocery stores on(…)

Lavaash by Saby - Restaurant Review

Who would have thought of getting the taste of Armenia in South Delhi? I was excited to try out a new world cuisine in town, and that too, reminiscent of someone’s childhood. I decided to take my almost 24-year-old for a pre-birthday dinner to offer an all-round perspective The Location Little away from the hustle(…)

Mahabelly – Restaurant Review

Mahabelly – Restaurant Review

Mahabelly, which means big fat tummy, is actually a play on the name of the famous king Mahabali, This is a joint venture of two alumni of St Stephen’s College and a doctor from Kerala. Non-vegetarian South Indian cuisine in a very cool ambiance is the USP of this 50-seater restaurant. The Location MA-A05 ,(…)

La Bodega — Restaurant Review

La Bodega — Restaurant Review

Finally, I found a place that professes to serve authentic Mexican fare in the heart of Delhi – La Bodega. Coming from a Spanish word meaning ‘grocery store’, La Bodega also means a cellar. However, this casual restaurant tries to reflect the rustic spirit of a streetside cafe in Mexico. The Location Conveniently located in(…)

Elma's Brasserie — Restaurant Review

At the outset, I must clarify that Brasserie is a French word alluding to a French restaurant that has a relaxed ambience and serves alcoholic beverages and food. Elma’s has two outlets in Delhi: their cafe in Hauz Khas Village and their restaurant at Lodhi Colony. Very few places in Delhi serve high tea, and(…)

Carnatic Cafe — Restaurant Review

Carnatic Cafe — Restaurant Review

There are days when one yearns for a home-style South Indian meal in a not-so-ostentatious place. More importantly, you can be in slippers and tracks. The newly opened Carnatic Cafe in GK2 market seemed to be just the right place to go for a lazy night meal, and so here I was, with my young(…)

The Fatty Bao New Delhi - Restaurant Review

Okay, so Delhi has a new dining destination. Now, if you are tired of the Saket, VK malls, the overcrowded Hauz Khas Village and only-great-in-winters Khan Market, the new place to try is Sangam Courtyard in R.K. Puram. Besides Starbucks and Cherry Comet instant ice cream, it already has a smattering of restaurants worth trying.(…)

Chocolateria San Churro Restaurant Review, New Delhi

Churros are strips of deep-fried pastry dusted with icing sugar or cinnamon. They are a popular snack in Spain, France, the Philippines, Portugal, and the south western United States. In Spain, where their roots lie, churros can be long and thick (or thin) and sometimes knotted. Dipped in champurrado, hot chocolate or café con leche(…)

Dhaba By Claridges — Restaurant Review

Claridges is one of my favorite places in Delhi. Situated in Lutyen’s Delhi, it has a wonderful old world charm. The Dhaba, one of their most popular offerings since my childhood, serves authentic desi khana (local cuisine). Once they opened their standalone restaurant in South Delhi by the same name, a recce was in order(…)
