The origin of boxing can be traced back to the ancient days. The sport was contested in the ancient competitions. Men have been fighting each other in the boxing matches since the historical days. However, women's participation in the sport started more recently in the last half of the twentieth century. To win a boxing match, the boxers have acquired various techniques and strategies. There are numerous moves and punches practiced by the boxers during a match. The World Boxing Association (WBA), the World Boxing Council (WBC), the International Boxing Federation (IBF), World Boxing Organization (WBO) and the International Boxing Organization (IBO) are the governing bodies of the international boxing. Women's International Boxing Federation (WIBF) is the organization, which governs the field of women's boxing at the international level.

In 1912 Stockholm Games, the sport event was once again excluded from the schedule. Since the 1920 Antwerp Olympics, the event has been contested regularly at the Olympics. Women's boxing was included in the 1904 St. louis Summer Games as a demonstration sport. However, the sport has never been held after the 1904 Games.
