The games were officially opened by Enrico Ceilo. The athletes uttered Olympic oath led by Riccardo Torriani. The Winter Olympics scheduled in 1940 and 1944 were cancelled due to the outbreak of the World War II. Hence, the 1948 Winter Summer Games were the first in twelve years.
