the border with Poland. The city serves as an important junction of continental transportation. Berlin is also one of the most influential centers in European science, culture and politics. Some of the landmarks in Berlin are Reichstag, Kulturforum, Schloss, Rudolph-Wilde-Park, Bierpinsel, Viktoriapark, Fernsehturm, Unter den Linden and Gro er Wansee.

The Eleventh Modern Olympics: The 1936 Summer Olympics was officially known as the Games of the XI Olympiad. The Games were held in 1936 in Berlin, the capital of Germany.

Venue: The Eleventh Summer Games were held at the Olympiastadion (Olympic Stadium) in Berlin, Germany . Olympiastadion is a sports stadium with two stadiums on the site: the present one and the one built for the cancelled 1916 Summer Olympics. Olympiastadion surrounded by the olympischer Platz was designed by Werner March. This stadium was built for 1936 Olympiad.

Participants: 3963 competitors from 49 countries took part in the eleventh Olympiad in Berlin. Events: There were 129 events in 19 sports in the Berlin Summer Games,1936 . The events included athletics, basketball, boxing, canoeing, cycling, diving, equestrian, fencing, football, gymnastics, handball, hockey, modern pentathlon, polo, rowing, shooting, swimming, water polo, weightlifting, wrestling and yachting.

Medal Count: United States won 56 medals in total with 24 gold medals. Germany became the winner of the eleventh Olympiad with 33 gold, 26 silver and 30 bronze medals.

The games were officially opened by Adolf Hitler . The Athletes uttered Olympic oath led by Rudolph Ismayr . Olympic Torch was brought in a torch relay from the city of Olympia, Greece for the first time. The Olympic Flame was lit by Fritz Schilgen.
