Career: Katarina Witt is considered to be one of the most successful figure skaters of all time. She started skating at an early age. In her skating career, Witt won the World Championships title for four times between 1984 and 1988. She also won the European Championships in six consecutive occasions from 1983 to 1988. Witt participated in the 1984 Sarajevo Winter Summer Games . In the Games, she won the first Olympic title of her career in the women's singles figure skating event. In the 1987 World Championships, Witt gave the best performance of her career. In the long program, Witt performed the best with landing five triple jumps and a triple loop jump. In the 1988 Calgary Winter Summer Games , Witt successfully defended her Olympic title in the women's singles event. After the 1988 Olympics, Witt turned professional. She performed on shows during the tours in the United States and Europe. She was also involved in acting in movies and television series. In 1994, Witt reappeared at the field pf amateur skating. She qualified for the 1994 Lillehammer Winter Summer Games. This time she was unable to make it to the podium. However, for her comeback in the Olympics, she received the Golden Camera.

Performance at the Olympics: Katarina Witt participated in the 1984 Sarajevo Winter Summer Games . In the Games, Witt won gold medal in the women's singles figure skating competition. In the event, she defeated two world champions, Rosalynn Sumners and Elaine Zayak. In the 1988 Calgary Winter Summer Games , Witt became the second female skater to successfully defend her Olympic title. Before Witt, Sonja Henie was the only skater to achieve the goal. This time she defeated Debi Thomas, her chief competitor.
