800 meter Event for Women at Olympics: The 800 meter event is the shortest among the middle distance races. In the event, athletes run two laps around the 400 meter long running track. The leading athletes in the event have great stamina and tenacity to
survive two laps round the track. In the first 100 meter of the race, the athletes have to remain in their respective lanes. One can only succeed in the event by acquiring proper strategy and technique.

800 meter Event for Women in Summer Olympics: The 800 meter event was included in the women's athletics program for the first time at the 1928 Amsterdam Summer Games. Since then, the event has become a regular part of the Olympic schedule.

Rules for 800 meter Event for Women: The rules set by the International Association of Athletics Federations or IAAF are followed during the 800 meter event in all international competition. Some of the rules are-

  • The length of the running track has been standardized by the IAAF. The organization has also determined the width of the lanes on the track.
  • Participation in the heats is compulsory for all the runners. Only those athletes are allowed to compete in the final round, who have qualified in the heats.
  • An athlete is disqualified from the competition after two consecutive false starts.
  • During the race, obstructing other runners' way on the track is considered to be a punishable offence.
  • According to the IAAF, the radius of the outside lane of the track cannot be more than 50 meter.
  • The athletes are not permitted to run inside the inner curve of the track, or to step on the inner line of the track.
  • During the 800 meter event, the athletes are not allowed to break their respective lanes in the first 800 meter stretch.
  • An athlete, once outside the track boundary cannot join the race again. He is considered to be out of the competition.
  • The athlete, who cannot make it to the finishing line, is not eligible for any credit.
  • An IAAF approved standard automatic timing device has to be used for measuring the time of the races.
