Norway Olympic Team at the 2016 Rio Olympics
Norway at 2016 Rio Olympics
Norway has a long history of participation in the Olympics. The country first participated in 1900 after the creation of the National Olympic Committee, and has competed in virtually all the Olympic Games since then. The Norwegian Olympic team has participated in 45 games and missed only two games: the 1904 Olympics and the 1980 games held in Moscow.
Medals Won
Norway has been ranked as the top 10% of countries with the most number of medals in the Olympics. So far, it has been able to bag 477 medals and generally has an average of 10 medals for each Olympic participated. In fact, Norway is among the few countries that has got more medals from winter events than summer events. She has been able to get 148 medals from summer games and 329 medals from the winter games with most of the medals being gold, followed by silver and bronze.
Players to watch out for
Norwegian athletes will participate in a variety of events such as track and field, swimming, archery and wrestling. Henrick Christiansen is among the athletes to watch out for in the Rio Olympics. He is a member of the swimming team and the youngest, only 19 years old. He will represent Norway in Olympics for the first time. He won a bronze medal in Netanya in 2015 and a silver medal in London in 2016 and will be participating in the 400 meters and 1500 meters freestyle.
Another athlete, who is expected to do well, is Isabelle Pedersen. The 24-year-old athlete is a force to reckon with in the 100 meters hurdle women's category. She has been able to scoop six medals since she joined athletics in 2009. Her last medal was in 2014 at the European Team Championships in Germany where she bagged a gold medal. She is bound to make a comeback at Rio 2016 Olympics.
