The Czech Republic will be one of the teams participating in the 2016 summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. This will be the sixth time the country is participated in the Olympics since their independence. The Czechs have signed up for all categories from athletics, badminton and canoeing to cycling, rowing, and judo. They are also very good in tennis and swimming and their hockey team is known internationally.

Rio Olympics 2016 is the sixth time Czech Republic is taking part in Summer Games as an independent nation. However, the Czech athletes had competed in these Olympics from 1920 to 1992 as Czechoslovakia and before that as Bohemia. The Czech Olympic committee is one of the oldest internationally recognized committees formed in 1899.
Major Achievements in Rio Olympics
Athletes from Czech Republic have won a total of 44 medals at summer Olympic Games. Their top winning games so far have been canoeing, athletics and shooting. The Czech ice hockey team has won 14 gold medals in Olympics so far as an independent state and 49 medals before that as Czechoslovakia.
Top Czech Athletes
Though the country is famous for ice hockey, their most famous athlete, Katerina Neumannova, is a cross-country skier with 6 medals. Zuzana Hejnova is also very famous internationally for her win in 400m hurdles at Beijing Olympics in 2008 and track and field Diamond League series. Zdenekstybar, Jan Svorada and Leopold Kong have also set the record for cycling.

The Czech Republic has attained all qualifying standards for most of the athletic events. They have put a maximum of three athletes in every event. The Czech Republic team is known for beautiful uniform and costumes in the Olympics and 2016 Rio Games is not expected to be any different.
