Hetrogenous Communities in Burco
The Berlin Conference drew arbitrary boundaries across the continent of Africa, without considering the cultural diversity of the continent. The fact that the Continent was the habitation of numerous communities and clans was ignored. These communities had different regions of habitation, and endorsed in occupations suiting the climatic differences and the difference in the fertility of the soil. When the boundaries were made, large number of people were displaced from their habitation and had to adjust to the new geo-political scenario.

A large group of people took refuge in Burco after being displaced from the nearby nations and places of Ethiopia, South and central Somaliland. Burco hence became the habitation of a number of clans, with their varied culture and beliefs.

The IDP or the population of internally displaced persons are reported to be 25,000. In other words, the total number of families to have been deported are estimated to be 3955.
