Once ruled by kings and princes the ancient city of Nitra Slovakia in western part of the country, today has
turned into a cradle of modern culture and economy. On one hand it preserves the historical edifices and statues and on the other hand urbanized hotels with modern facilities and international cuisine give Nitra its 21st C flavor. The city is the hub of a rich culture made up of artists, theater festival and music festivals.

One of the earliest towns of Slovakia, Nitra Slovakia had been the home of the Great Moravian Empire. The first Christian church of Slovakia was built in the city of Nitra. The Nitra Castle is the most popular tourist attraction in the city. It is an impressive monument that reflects the architectural style of the natives and the history of the land.

Numerous well-preserved historical buildings in the Upper Town of Nitra in Slovakia provide the region with an old world charm and evoke a sense of historical nostalgia. A Franciscan church, burgher houses and an art gallery are significant sightseeing spots in this region of Nitra. Nitra museum exhibits the history of Nitra, its surrounding areas and Slovakia. Slovakian works along with exhibitions of foreign artists are found in The Nitra State gallery, the Gallery of the Young and the Art Gallery.

The areas surrounding Nitra provide grounds for different activities like hiking etc. The view from the Zobor peak is picturesque as the landscape encapsulates the wine growing area of Nitra. The National Natural Reserve at Zobor and at Lukpa introduces the tourists to the diverse flora and fauna of Nitra. The forest full of chestnut trees at Jelenska Gastanica is worth a visit.

A trip to Nitra remains incomplete without visiting the village of Topolcianky which consists of a Renaissance castle, European buffalo reserve and horse breeding farms and the port town of Komarno which has solid fortifications.
