Korean Clothing

Korean Clothing with unique textures is a delight to watch. The traditional North Korean clothing is worn by the Koreans in auspicious occasions. The modern men and women of North Korea have adopted the international dresses like jeans, t-shirts, trousers.
But there are certain traditional Korean clothing for men and women which need a mention.

Few of the traditional North Korean clothing for men include:
  • Cheogori and Paji - this dress code is worn both by Korean men and women. But there are certain differences between the cheogori and paji of men and women. The cheogori worn by the Korean men are larger in size in comparison with that of the Korean women. The men's cheogori reaches down to the level of waist. It can go even below the waist level. The paji have had many modifications down the ages to suit the professional needs of the Korean men. The earliest ones contained thin legs to help the causes of hunting and horseback riding. But the paji gradually got wider legs for the facilitation of the farmers working in the cultivable lands. The baggier pants are also available.
    • Hakch'angui - this sort of Korean clothing was worn by Korean scholars in the Koryo (918-1392) and Chosun (1392-1910) periods. It is believed that the design of this Korean clothing brings nobleness in the mind.
    Few of the traditional North Korean clothing for women include:
    • Chogori and Ch'ima - the earliest type were wrapped around the hips and were fastened to the waist. But in the later period, chogori stretched to the arm pits with a front panel to clothe the breasts. They are tied around the chest with a bow.
    • Durumagi - this Korean clothing is worn in the winter over regular clothes. Nowadays, it is worn by all sections of the Korean society.
