Viewing The Cherry Blossoms |
The Japanese traditional custom of viewing and appreciating the beauty of the Sakura or the cherry blossoms is called the Hanami. In about early February in Okinawa and from March to end April in the rest of the country the bright pink cherry blossoms that have now come to represent Japan bloom all over. Hanami, the watching of these blossoms is almost a ritual in Japan. The blossoms last only a week or two and forecasts are closely followed. |

The modern-day hanami essentially consists of an outdoor party with views of the sakura. The night-time hanami party called yozakura. In a number of popular hanami spots such as the Ueno Park paper lanterns are put up for yozakura. |
