World War II was a global war fought from 1939 to 1945 involving the great powers of the world divided as the Axis - Germany, Italy, and Japan and the Allies - France and Britain and later the Soviet Union and the United States of America.
Bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki (the only use of nuclear weapons for warfare in history) - The U.S. dropped world's first deployed atomic bomb ('Little Boy') on Hiroshima on August 6, 1945, and then another atomic bomb ('Fat Man') on Nagasaki on August 9, 1945, during World War II.
