Silute Map

Silute city is located within the Silute District. Geographically it occupies a section of the Klaipeda region, but it falls under the ethnographic region of Lithuania Minor.
It was once the capital of the county of Silute during the war period. The place where Silute is located today has an interesting history. It was once an inn where the wayfarers rested en route to Memel from Tilsit and vice versa. The name of the inn in Lithuanian was Silokarcema. Silute was part of the German territories. It was only after the First World War that it was incorporated into Lithuania. Though an ancient city, Silute has managed to retain the archaeological monuments of the past. The economy of Silute relies mainly on its industries. There are a number of industries in the region. These include a butter and cheese manufacturing unit, a meat processing unit which is one of the latest addition to the list of industries in Silute. Silute also has a peat industry. The local government of the region has undertaken several steps to develop the industrial sector. The town is occupied by a moderate population. Silute in Lithuania is slowly progressing on the path of development.
