Kretinga in Lithuania located in the western fringes of the country. The town comprises of a moderate population, the approximate number of inhabitants been close to 22,000. It is located within the Kretinga district.
The town occupies an area of about 1540 ha. Kretinga occupies a favorable position as it is located in close proximity to Palanga. The port of Klaipeda lies at a distance of just 21 kilometers from the city. Kretinga is well connected with other cities and counties of Lithuania. There is well maintained network of roads that connect Kretinga to Klaipeda, Palinga and Siauliai. The integrated railway lines are the primary means of communication between Kretinga and the Lithuanian capital of Vilnius. Kretinga is surrounded by dense forests. There are three rivers which flow through the region namely the Minija, the Sventoji and the Akmena. The tourist attractions in Kretinga include several churches and monasteries. There is also a winter garden and a couple of museums. The Orvydai museum of the Strange and Unusual and the M. Valanciaus Museum are very popular amongst tourists. As with the other districts of Lithuania, the Kretinga district also has its individual set of customs and traditions. The people of the Kretinga city adhere to these traditional ways of life.
