The blue water of the Issyk-Kul Region is a treat for the eyes. Issyk-Kul Region is one of the main attractions of Kyrgyzstan. The temperature of the water in the lake in summer varies from 68 to 73 F and in winter it is approximately 36 to 37 F. The presence of high mineral content makes the water of Issyk-Kul Region in Kyrgyzstan unsuitable for drinking or any irrigation work. Sometimes the water of the lake is used for watering cattle.

The western part of the lake is rocky and sandy and scarce vegetation can be found. The eastern part of the lake features steppes and meadows. Elm trees grow in some parts in the east .Fir forests can be found extensively in the northern slopes of Terskey Alatau mountain range.

Large varieties of fishes are found in the Lake Issyk-Kul. "Soman", the "Chebak" and "marinka" fishes are caught for commercial purposes. These western and the eastern part of the lake is the winter home of waterfowls. Nearly 50,000 water fowls gather in the winter month and it is an amazing sight for the tourists. Bald coots, mallards, teals are the different species of water fowls found here.

Besides the scenic beauty, the lake offers a number of activities such as swimming, diving and sailing. The tourists can stay in the rest houses or rented rooms of the local people. Sanatoriums of different budgets can be found here.

Issyk-Kul Region is a must watch destination in Kyrgyzstan.
