Djalal Abad is the administrative, economic and cultural centre of Jalal-Abad oblast (province), lying to the south of the valley of the Kugart river, along the foothills of the Babash Ata mountains in the North. Djalal Abad in Kyrgyzstan has a climate remarkable for hot, dry summers and sunny and warm autumns with rare thundershowers and warm, highly humid winters.

Djalal-Abad has always been famous due to its spas. According to the legend lepers are cured by the water from the Hozret-Ayub-Paigambar spa. The salty waters of the Djalal Abad sanatoria, Kurort, are collected in bottles by people from far and wide. The "Ikram-Ajy" Panorama, at a height of 1000 meters, with a complex that consists of a souvenir shop, national crafts hall and an entertainment hall is offered by a cafe near the entrance to the health resort of Kurort. The greenery of the city can truly be appreciated friom here, as the low-rise buildings are covered by a green canopy of trees rising above them.
In its origin the place was a small village around a fortress. Then it became a military hospital and garrison town under the Russians. After changing itself into a market town and undergoing major reconstruction in the middle of the past century, now it is a business center with construction, electro-technical, wood processing, light, oil and food industries. The walnut jam and walnut honey are its main products.The Community Based Tourism Project organizes services and accommodation in Djalal Abad and throughout the province (oblast).
