Madaba is located 30 miles south-west of Amman, the capital of Jordan along the King's Highway.
History of Madaba
The history of Madaba can be traced back even before the 1300 BC. It had been referred in the Bible as "Medaba". Then the town was an Amorite town situated near the border of Moab. The town was named after the famous Moabite Stone. The achievements of king "Mesha" who ruled during the 9th century BC were recorded.
Tourist Attractions in Madaba
Madaba is famous mainly for the fascinating Byzantine mosaics. The 6th century Byzantine mosaic map, which shows the entire region covering the whole area of Jordan and Palestine in the north and Egypt in the south. The map is currently placed in the Greek Orthodox Church named "St. George". The map also display mesmerizing diagram of Jerusalem.
The Archeological Museum, Church of Virgin and the Apostles are the places where all other mosaic art pieces are placed.
