The city of Yokkaichi is famous from the medieval era for being a major market city of Japan. Yokkaichi falls within the prefecture of Mie in the Tokai region of Japan. The closeness to the Ise Bay had made the city one of the important port towns since the 19th century.
Some of the most important places of attraction in Yokkaichi are:
- Shisuian or the teahouse: a visit to this teahouse will give you the taste of the finest teas produced in the neighboring areas. The traditional values and culture of Mie prefecture can be experienced while here.
- Yokkaichi Port: as the port of Yokkaichi is one of the biggest international ports visitors should make it a point to take glimpse of it while in the city. A short cruise in a ferry boat is a major point of attraction. The sunrise and a sunset on the port create a romantic atmosphere.
- The Australian Dome: as Sydney is the sister city of Yokkaichi, the sky hook which made its appearance in Osaka, was named the Australian dome.
