Cyclone Vardah Lashes Coast in Tamil Nadu
Dec 12, 2016 5:29 AM(ET): Cyclone Vardah which is proceeding with wind speeds of between 100 and 110 kmph, has lashed coasts in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, and made landfall near Chennai. As per reports, in another four hours, the cyclone storm will cross the land completely.

More than 1600 people have been evacuated from the coastal areas. Many flights have been cancelled and delayed. Schools and colleges are closed. The Navy and around 30 diving teams are on standby.

According to India Meteorological Department, heavy rains and strong winds will keep whipping the city for the next 36 hours.
