We all have seen robots in Hollywood movies — contextually conceived with the idea of making life easier for humans and eventually taking over the world after developing human intelligence. Well, that particular incidence might be a distinct possibility in the distant future, but as of right now industrial robots are being used by many countries in carrying out tasks that might be detrimental for humans. These robots are engaged in performing a number of duties in manufacturing such as moving materials, tools, parts and other such stuff. Amazing? Read on.

The International Federation of Robotics (IFR) carried out a survey which had listed the top ten nations with the highest number of industrial robots per 10,000 people who are employed in manufacturing. It was no wonder that the list included the names of countries that are the world’s biggest producers. Some of these were industrial powerhouses such as Japan, South Korea and Germany. In fact, the IFR put South Korea at the top of the list among countries that had the most number of industrial robots per 10,000 people. In South Korea, the number stood at 347. The 2016 report stated that over the next five years, South Korea will pump in approximately $445 million in its robotics industry.

Coming in at the second spot was the Asian nation Japan where there were 339 industrial robots for every 10,000 people employed in manufacturing. The robotics industry is a significant one in Japan and as per estimates, the nation is expecting a revenue of around $70 billion by 2025 for robotics.

In Germany, which is the most prosperous country in Europe, there were 261 industrial robots for every 10,000 people employed in manufacturing, while in Italy the figure stood at 159. In Italy, Comau is a major producer of industrial robots. Sweden also relied heavily on industrial robots and here, the figure stood at 157 industrial robots for every 10,000 people employed in manufacturing.

Denmark, which invests heavily in industrial robots, reported figures of 145, while in the United States it was 135 industrial robots for every 10,000 people employed in manufacturing. In fact, industrial robots are on the rise in the US.

The other countries among the IFR’s list of top ten nations with the highest number of industrial robots for every 10,000 people employed in manufacturing were Spain, Finland and Taiwan with figures of 131, 130, and 129 respectively. The table below gives you a clear idea of the number of industrial robots for every 10,000 people employed in manufacturing in various countries.
