Why This City Works? How This City Works?

T. Sheridan wrote a poem titled, “The More We Learn The Less We Know For Sure.” This thought has many takes, and my take is – the more we know, we discover how little we know. I am convinced that one can merrily tailgate knowledge and live ones life as a student and remain young at mind through his/her time on the planet earth. Am I being philosophical? Maybe, maybe not.

At Mapsofworld, we live to learn and we live to share what all we learn. Learning and sharing are truly and surely intertwined and we all enjoy it, but this is a challenge, too. Once you have learned and shared, you discover that “you are not home yet” and it becomes an unending loop. There is a need to define a beginning and an end to sharing. This statement sounds criminal, right? Indeed, it does. Knowledge should always be without boundaries but then one needs the boundaries to cover a wider span.  At Mapsofworld.com, we live these battles every day and do succeed in marking boundaries to knowledge, and, of course, we don’t like it.

A few years back, we did a project called “Top 20 Most Visited Cities In The World.” We defined our first boundary when we said we must stop at “20” cities. Having done that, we started defining what all must get covered. That every city must have a map was a no-brainer, and true to Mapsofworld’s character we started each city with a map but for each of the five other sections, there were big time debates. These debates have not ended till date. These cities have gone through additions and read very differently today.  It is once again time for us to redraw the boundaries of these cities on Mapsofworld. We would once again be sitting together, and, for all we may know, we may raze this section completely and make space for a new section to come up, instead.

Do let us know what all you would like to see – here is London, London would be the “test article” as we walk ahead. Our focus would remain on discovering and sharing, “Why this city works? How this city works?”
