The Manchester Arena bombing took place on May 22, 2017, and claimed 23 lives. The dead also included the attacker. Around 250 people were injured in the Islamist-extremism-inspired terror attack. The attack happened when a shrapnel-laden homemade bomb exploded when people were exiting from a concert by American singer Ariana Grande at Manchester in the United Kingdom. There were initial suspicions that a terrorist network was behind the attacks; however, the police later stated that Salman Ramadan Abedi had largely acted alone. The attack is considered the deadliest in the United Kingdom since the London bombings which took place on July 7, 2005.
